Light Diffusers and Polarizers The SX30‑DKIT-LP Diffuser and Polarizer Kit from Smart Vision Lights can be used to reduce hotspots and glare, improving image clarity. This kit includes both a Diffuser, and a Polarizer that can be field installed by a user in the SX30, ODSX30, and SX30G2. The diffusers and polarizers are only sold in sets, although only one can be used at a time. Each unit is 24.7mm in Diameter, and approximately 2.9mm thick. A diffuser is used to homogenize lighting structure by distributing source light over a scattering/translucent area to produce an effective light-emitting surface. This is useful for illuminating shiny surfaces or large areas, where source direction and structure can pose a limitation for imaging systems. Smart Vision Lights’ standard diffusers are usable with all visible wavelengths. UV LEDs and SWIR may require a special diffuser. Polarizing filters are used to help to reduce specular reflections from shiny, nonmetal surfaces. Smart Vision Lights’ polarizer material has a typical transmission of about 40% while blocking about 60% of the light not in the plane of polarization. The polarizer is placed in front of the light and is available as an option with our visible wavelength lights. It is not recommended to use with continuous operation with certain wavelengths (e.g., white, blue) as it may damage the polarizer due to focused light/high flux zones at the light’s output window. UV LEDs and SWIR require a special polarizer.
